Distinguished guests, Linda, Tammy, Robert, and members of the Rosenbloom family. My name is Frank Taylor, and I am Chief of the New Mexico State Police.
It is my honor to stand before you today as we honor the memory of Officer Robert Rosenbloom by dedicating this building in honor of his name. One of the things that I would like to comment on his life is simply this...
Martin Luther King said this: "The time is always right to do what is right."
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the right thing to do. It should have been done many years ago. For whatever reasons, we never thought about it, but it is happening now.
Officer Rosenbloom dedicated his life to law enforcement. He was a State Police officer at the time of his death. He was well respected. He had so much potential that he may have been standing where I am standing now had he been allowed to live.
As for the people who are responsible for what happened to Officer Robert Rosenbloom, there have been efforts that have been made not only on a state wide basis but on a national basis to bring those individuals to justice for what they have done. This has not happened, but I can tell you this... that on behalf of the Department of Public Safety and especially the State Police, we will never rest until we have brought those people responsible for what they did to Officer Robert Rosenbloom to justice. We will do everything that is necessary, and we will never, never forget that those individuals are still alive and free and have not paid for what they have done not only to Officer Robert Rosenbloom, but to the Rosenbloom family. Those efforts will continue long after I am gone and after Secretary Bakas is gone. They will be there until such time as these men are brought to justice.
As you know, things have happened over the last few days that are very tragic. It all has been expressed not only by Deacon Van Valkenburgh, but by Secretary Bakas. And, it's just like it says here... "the time is right to do what is right now."
We are honoring the memory of Officer Robert Rosenbloom for his contribution and for his dedication and for his ultimate sacrifice. Nothing I can say will ever, ever bring back Robert Rosenbloom to you and to your children, but I can simply tell you this, that he is in our thoughts and in our prayers and with us at all times, and we honor him by dedicating the building to him.
In closing, I would simply like to say this... someone said... "The monument of a great man is not of granite or marble or bronze. It consists in his goodness, his deeds, his love, and his compassion." I think all of that is exemplified not only by Officer Robert Rosenbloom, but by his family. He indeed fits this very statement that I have just read, and with that we will continue on with the ceremony.
Thank you, and God Bless all of you.
