The Rose Still Blooms

A rose once grew where all could see sheltered beside a garden wall.
And as the days passed swiftly by, it spread its branches straight and tall.
One day a beam of light shown through a crevice that had opened wide.
The rose bent gently towards it's warmth, then passed beyond to the other side.
Now you who deeply feel it's loss be comforted...
The rose blooms there.
It's beauty even greater now, nurtured by God's own loving care.

When I was first contacted by the New Mexico State Police about the dedication of this building to Bob, I was immediately excited and emotional over it. I knew it was a wonderful thing to happen, but as events relating to Bob's death have a way of doing, it took me back in time and to a place in my life that is very difficult to revisit.
Secretary Nicholas Bakas, Chief Frank Taylor, Sgt. Roylene Ross-Weaver, and everyone who were involved in organizing this event treated my family and I with extreme caring and respect. Sgt. Ross-Weaver and I talked on the phone so much that when we finally got to meet in person, I felt like I was getting to see an old friend (well, not exactly "old" since she's young enough to be my daughter).
We knew the ceremony was going to be a beautiful experience, but we never expected all of the special extras that were included. We were picked up at the Inn at Paradise (where we were staying) and escorted across town to the State Police office. Tammy and I were given beautiful rose corsages, and Rob was given a rose boutonniere. They had on display the picture of Bob and his biography that had been made to hang on the wall inside of the State Police building and newspaper articles about Bob that had been laminated. Sgt. Ross-Weaver also gave me a beautiful poem, The Final Inspection.
During the ceremony, I was presented with the New Mexico state flag, Tammy was presented with a State Police hat, Rob was presented with a State Police badge, and each grandchild was presented with a toy replica of a New Mexico State Police patrol car with license plates made with Bob's patrol car number, 245. Each of us were given a program of the ceremony, a card with the New Mexico State Police history with a State Police shoulder patch attached, a miniature gold State Police badge pin, and a miniature silver State Police shoulder patch pin.
A New Mexico State Police patrol car with Bob's license plate 245 was parked next to where the ceremony was taking place.
There was a reception following the ceremony, and I got to talk to so many wonderful friends that I hadn't seen in many years.
We were then the guests of the State Police at the New Mexico State Fair, and we were given an escort to the fair by Sgt. Ross-Weaver. Once at the fair, a State Police officer and a Mounted Patrolman were assigned to escort us the whole time we were at the fair. My granddaughter Breeana asked me if they were our secret service. We really enjoyed having our "secret service" escort! We also enjoyed talking to several other officers throughout the fair. Everyone treated us like royalty.
Not only was this event a wonderful honor and tribute to Bob, it was a beautiful way to allow Bob's children and grandchildren to feel him closer in their hearts and lives.
My family, Tammy, Rob, the grandchildren, and I all give our sincere thanks to the New Mexico State Police Association, the Department of Public Safety, and everyone involved for giving us such a wonderful experience.

A special thanks to Bob Trippeer:
Thank you Uncle Bob for coming and being part of the ceremony. You always have
been and always are there when we need you. We love you!
